This is an analog horror inspired short that I made in Spring of 2022.
Since I was still a student at this time, I submitted this to Weber State University's Digital Media Showcase and won first place!
I love analog horror and took inspiration from Alex Kister, who created the first season of The Mandela Catalog entirely out of free assets, so I did the same here. Everything is free to use assets, with the exclusion of the text to speech voice which I bought for $3 from a database.
I tried really hard to emulate a 70s informational video style with the types of font and color grading I used. I also added some chromatic aberration to give it the feeling that this is an old VHS tape that was dug up out of someone's garage.
I was so honored to win an award for a short that I made because I love one niche genre of online horror so much.
There are many references to analog horror series, particularly The Walten Files. The music is the edited version of "Masquerade" by Jack Hylon & His Orchestra that Martin Walls made for the third episode.
There are also references to Mandela Catalog, Midwest Angelica, and Salad Fingers in the video.
I didn't know this at the time, but the TTS voice I used was also the voice used in the first episode of The Walten Files!
